Default Linked Model Instance Location Question

When I create a new instance of a linked model I am unable to set a base/insertion point and so struggle with alignment and placing the new instance in the same place. Have I missed something?

Is there a way to create a new linked model instance whilst ensuring it comes in at exactly the same spot?

I couldn't find much about linked model instances in the Help file (specificaly controlling the visibility settings), are there any other resources/tutorials available?

I discovered if you select the linked model in a view then copy and enter 0 the new instance is placed in the same position as the original.
