Anybody have any ideas about why these pipes extend through the fitting? It only displays that way in the course display setting.

So to follow up, it seems that the symbolic lines within the family were not set to the subcategory "Pipe Fitting." Once that was changed, the symbolic pipe linework cleaned up fine.
