Default Edges not rendering properly in 3D visual styles

A picture is worth a 1000 words so they say, so an illustration of my problem is attached.

In the file are four viewports of the same set of objects in 3dhidden (top left) 3dwireframe (top right), conceptual (bottom left) and realistic (bottom right). As you can see, edges that should be hidden are visible through what should be opaque solids, but the appearance is very erratic: zooming in and out causes more or less of the obscured lines to be visible. I played with every visual style setting I could find to no avail (unless I simply turned edges off, but that's not an acceptable solution).

This is quite aggravating, as providing proper annotation on this project without a good 3d visualization is going to be difficult to say the least.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I had the exact same problem in 2008. I talked to Adesk, and sent them a file. They were able to see the problem in my file which led them to believe it was a file specific problem.
What I wound up doing was copying everything to a new, clean template and it stopped doing it. Somethimes it would return, then I'd just copy it again and save it.

Hrm. Not what I was hoping to hear, but I appreciate it. If they were able to see something in the file, to me that means that it should be somehow correctable, but. . . oh well.

I too have seen this problem as well.

I notice it seems to rear it's head when switching through multiple visual styles.

What the fix is, I have no idea.

It's weird that you see it in 2009. I had issues with it in 08, but it's never done it in 09. ~shrug~

Evidently whatever the problem is, it's in my template file, because copying the objects to a new file from the same template had the same issue! Using a different template file worked though, so it's time to rebuild my template, I guess. Thanks for the insight.

Did you import it from an older version or create it from scratch?

It's always a good idea to either use an OOTB template, or start with one, then change it for what you need. Don't start one from scratch because OOTB templates have a bunch of stuff embedded in them already. That's what I've always been told, anyway.

Yes, it was based on one of the standard templates and was created after I switched to 2009. Not a huge deal to rebuild it, it could use some cleaning up anyway.
