Help with cad bocks importation into Revit..HELP

I am looking for a way to bring in DWG blocks into revit, with regard to equipment. I already have these pieces of equipment drawn in CAD; some are very detailed; and im just looking for someone to guide me through the right way to get these blocks or equipment into a revit file, 2D is fine thats all i need, i just need some direction on how to do it....HELP

I import the cad file into a detail component by going to file import.
Then I select the cad file & fully explode & clean out all text & dimensions. & change all the lines to revit based lines (thin, medium, or ones I create on my own in the file by going to object styles). I then import that detail component into my revit file & drop it onto a detail view. Then I do all noting & dimensioning in there. Makes things more clean & you don't import crazy manufacturer specific lineweights into your project file.

Step 1. : Open the Specialty Equipment Family Template ( a .rte file installed on your C:
drive, or check with your IT mgr. if templates are on the server/network. )

Step 2.: In the Family template, go to File>Import/Link> Cad Formats


Step 3. Import the Cad file. Select Center to Center for origin. Select Auto Detect Scale

Step 4. You should now have the Cad .dwg imported into the Family. Position it
so the corner, or center of it is located at the intersection of the two reference planes in the window.

Step 5.: Save the Family, with a proper name and location on your network--preferably
into a Cad Library or Project Content folder.

Step 6. Select Load into Project at the lower left corner of the screen.

Step 7. In the Project, select File>Load from Library> and browse to the location where the Family was saved. Select it and hit Open.

Step 8. : Go to Basics>Component> and select the Family from the list. Place into your Project.

This should get you started. refer to Revit Help for more on Importing Cad into Families,
and loading Families into a Project.

I support both Krista and Cliff on this one:

Kristas method, for doing away with the actual DWG... Though i dont know that id simply full explode it. You end up with TONS of lines. I suppose if you want you can keep the DWG, but i like to trace over the general outline for Coarse level of detail, and have the "super drawing" at fine only.

But, then ALWAYS make sure you import that in to an actual FAMILY, and not just a detail component. Why? Detail components are view specific, object families are project wide. If you place a dishwasher, its there in the PROJECT. You dont want to go view to view making sure the same dishwasher is placed.

With the DWG imported in to a plubing fixture FAMILY, it will place just like a 3d onject, schedule like a regular revit family, etc.
