When exporting to max via FBX elements go missing!

I have exported a model from Revit09 via FBX, this has then been sent to another company who opened it up in Max09 to find window transoms and random polygons missing (see attached). I have therefore been into the families and checked all the working components etc at this end and all seems good with regards to the extrusions and their parameters.

So what is the problem, any ideas? Is it the materials settings, do I need to redraw the elements that have gone missing? FYI the import of the FBX file in MAX has been done using the standard revit preset.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

To me, it looks as though the model on the 3ds MAX side has flipped normals. With out the revit file, fbx file or max file its hard to say. A quick check for this in 3ds max would be to apply a 2-sided material to see if the missing polygons fill in or not.

Is there a chance you can post a revit model containing just the wall and window you show for one of us to check on the fbx transfer and see if we get the same results?

Thanks for the reply. I have attached a model for you to have a look at, the window is duplicated in the model an awful lot as it is part of a very large student accomodation proposal. Potentialy the window has been flipped or mirrored in the model to place it in the correct position, could this be confusing the fbx file and hence loosing some of the information/polygons.

The attached is a just a wall and window as asked in the convoluted way it has been put together, not by myself may I add .......

All the windows came through with all their polygons intact. I would suggest trying to export a smaller portion of your model from Revit to see if less geometry coming through helps polys appear correctly. I haven't heard of a limitation of objects going from revit to max.

    Thank you Steve.

Is it anything to do with the settings that are used when importing the fbx into Max?

I don't think the settings can be that selective when importing geometry into max. I know it can limit general things like cameras, daylight systems, etc., but I don't believe it can get down to subobject detail.
