Exclamation Viewing Wall Studs- Coarse vs Medium

I hope there is a way to do this.

Is there a way to set the coarse detail level to show the core boundary instead of the finish? I'm working on a housing project. The detail level is set to medium because we want to see the stud lines, but of course it doesn't look great, we'd like to keep it at coarse but it isn't helpful.

    Thanks!!

You can override the display of walls in Visibility/Graphic Overrides. Set your view to Coarse, then in Overrides, set Walls to display at Medium detail, then override the Cut pattern to solid grey. And there you have solid grey walls, but with the layer lines in black. You can't have the core boundary on its own, but this is pretty close. See attached for result. Use View Templates to propagate your view settings to other views.

The other work around for this situation is going to visibility and graphics and click and edit "Cut line styles" . First make sure all the cut pattern of the layers in the wall structure are set to "none"; then go to visibility and edit the cut line styles: change the color line of the layers of the wall to white, leaving only the structure in black, you can change the line weight of the structure to 5 for example. Also uncheck the "common edges" in the wall category.

Now you can see only the core (studs) of the wall in "fine or medium detail".

Thanks, that sounds good too! We'll try that also, see which was is chosen.

    I appreciate your advice!

Just realize that solution is ONLY going to work in Revit. "White" is not invisible... its a color. When you export that, or tell colors to plot "Black" in your plot setup, theyre going to come back...

So either set your plot settings to plot colors as "colors" instead of black lines, and promise not to export to DWG, or get on board with (sadly) having to see the whole wall...

Would be nice to show core only...

That's good to know, It looked fine, but when dimensioning, it looks wrong since it looks like the extension lines are floating and not selecting anything.

Another option we're exploring is not having any finishes for our "core" walls, creating extra wall types with just the finishes, and place them as an add on where we need to see them as in some sections, and most elevations. We'll see if that works, I hope it does.

Sounds like a lot of extra work. And while joining each layer of wall together should make doors and windows cut the entire assembly, sometimes there are "issues" with inserts cutting multiple joined walls.

Eww, I hope it isn't too bad. In this specific project it might work alright. but for something more typical I think you're right and it'll be a lot of work. We'll see. I have to try it still, it's more work than the earlier options. I need a little more time to play with it.

We use this method for our tiled walls and it works fine.
One thing to keep in mind though, if you have a secondary wall for the finishes, they will also show on plan. You can easily make a filter to hide these though if you don't want to see them at certain scales.
