Default Where are the dimension Parameters?

    Hi
    I’m Using '09.

This is a question where I think my response to the answer will be “Oh, of course how stupid of me”

I’ve a family created by someone else. There are numerous dimension parameters listed in family types but I can’t see them all in the family.
Part of the family is a sweep which I’ve edited, but still can’t see anything.
I’ve turned on everything in VG.

It takes the value for many of the parameters from a catalogue so I’m sure they’re required & used.

What am I failing to comprehend?

I did not look at the family but some of the dimension parameters could be inside a sketch. Typically you try to keep parameters out of sketch geometry (for this exact reason), but sometimes you need to have it there for one reason or another.

Your Family is a sweep based extrusion with a predefined profile as the sweep. If you look in your project browser to your families and sub-category of profiles you'll fined your beam profile family. Select the "Type" and look at it's properties. In here you'll find the hidden dimensions you're looking for. It's just like having a nested family, and controlling it's parameters by the host family.

    I hope this helps,

    Jeff S.

Select the sweep, Click edit & you can see them.
During sketching for sweep or extrusion any dimensioned parameter or any referance plane drawn will not show after finising the sweep or extru.

    Thanks for all your replies.

OK, I've clicked Edit sweep, but still see nothing. What view can you see, let's say, the t parameter in?

Forgive me If I'm being a bit dim.

If you edit the profile family, you should be able to see all your dims. Reference the ASD Steel Construction Manual for further assistance as well.

    Good Night,

    Good Night,

    Jeff S.
I select the sweep click Edit sweep - no dims.
I select the profile & it lists as UKB Beam profile but the edit button is greyed.

Remember, this isn't my family & so I don't have the original profile.
Is this where the dimensions would be? Shouldn't they be transferred along with the profile?
    Thanks

    Dave,

You do have access to the profile, it's nested into this family. It's just like loading a family into a project. It's always in the project unless you delete all instances then purge it out.

Please see the attached image to see how you can "Edit" the profile. The parameters in the nested profile are being controlled by this families parameters. This is done so that you can have one basic profile, allowing it to stretch to whatever beam size you need, and have it extrude.
