Exclamation FATAL ERROR OPENING .DWG FILE

I encountered fatal error when opening .dwg file. I tried to recover/repair the same .dwg file but same thing happened, I cannot open the file anymore. When I search where it is autosaved, the folder local~/temp~ i cannot find in my system. Please help me. Thanks

Default Re: FATAL ERROR OPENING .DWG FILE

Welcome to AUGI, and congrats on your 1st post. Unfortunately this is possibly a very difficult thing to do. It depends on what's happened with the DWG.

Is there a BAK file in the same folder as the DWG? If so rename it to a DWG (with a different name from the original) and try opening this. If still a prob, try recovering this.

BTW, what size is the DWG file? If zero there was probably a hard-disk crash during save ... which is nearly impossible to rectify

If all else fails, try getting an undelete utility from the web. There are numerous available, just do a Google search. One I sometimes use is Undelete Plus. Basically it scans your hard drive for any deleted files (including those AutoSaves which sometimes disappear). As long as no new file was saved over the same space as the deleted file, it should be able to restore it.
