Default Bad DWG file - can't attach it!

    Hi,

I'm having an issue with some files in my project. When I try to open file which has many references, most of them loads well, but with 2 I have to wait... about 10 minutes until AutoCAD moves over the stage "merging..... 99%complete". With one of those two files I started experimenting, finally I did this: 1) delete all objects in file; 2) draw a simple smiley consisting form few lines, circles and arcs, all on layer 0; 3) PURGE, AUDIT, RECOVER the drawing. And still, the file is 1 MB big, and I can't attach it.
Any idea about what's going on?

Any help, hint, suggestion will be very appreciated!!

I first tried to purge your file as well and only dropped it a few KB's. Then i copied and pasted the the smiley face into a new acad model space. File size was then 112KB's. Not sure what the problem was (didn't really check for xref links etc etc)

I solved this by copying needed objects from "sick" file and then pasting them into empty file by Right Click/Clipboard/Paste to Original Coordinates.

    Thanks for your input anyway

i've fixed WAY too many drawings that way myself...
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

Another thing to check is to purge all unwanted styles and mvblocks from the drawing. Then you will have to go back and purge regualr blocks again.
Not sure if this will help just a suggestion.

I guess i should have opened the drawing before commenting. Everything is already out. Sorry not more help that that.

It sounds as though your file is corrupted and can't be recovered.

I would open the bad file, run the PURGE command and purge all, then the AUDIT command and answer yes to fix errors. Then use the WBLOCK command and select the objects you want to keep, and save that as a separate drawing. This command automatically purges out any drawing elements that are not part of the selection set.
Then try to XREF the (hopefully) streamlined drawing into your project.

    Take care....

You may want to try superPurge from Manusoft. There's a 30 day trial available from the website

Same old story: annotation scales. Search, and implement one of the systemic solutions (*including* making sure you have the latest SP installed). The recepients of your files will thank you.
