Default HELP! Very slow keyboard response

When I use the mouse exclusively, no problem.

When I use any keystroke, Autocad waits for one minute before responding. This includes keyboard shortcuts, ("C" for circle, for example), the Enter key to close out a selection set or finish a command, and the right click on the mouse.

    Typical command procedure:

Click "move" icon on toolbar - immediate response
Click an entity on the screen - immediate response
Click two locations to surround entities - immediate response
Hit "Enter" - Freeze - One minute.
Click starting position - immediate response
    Attempt to enter relative coordinates:
    Hit "@" - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "2" - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "." - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "0" - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "3" - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "<" - Freeze - One minute
    Hit "0" - Freeze - One minute
Hit Enter to finish command - Freeze - One minute.

Drawing size has no bearing on this.

As you can see, this is very frustrating. When I left work Friday and shut down my machine, everything was fine. When I booted up Saturday, the above happened. The only change from Friday to Saturday was that two gurus from corporate came in to tweak the network. They claim they did nothing that would affect this, but nothing else happened. Also, noone else here at work is having this problem.

    Any ideas?

Only time I saw something like this was when my server connection was messed up, permissions were setup so that my computer had to ask permission every time it wrote something to the drawing stored on the server.

This is my understanding of what happened so you tech guys can laugh all you want

Thanks for the response. That would be my first guess too, but all of the other programs I use that access the server work fine. Also, saving drawing files to the server works fine, and loading them from the server works fine.

As of now, I'm looking at a full reinstall of Acad.

    Wish me luck!

Are all of your Support Paths still intact since your network was "tweaked"?

If AutoCAD can't find directories / folders that are listed in your support path it can lead to very slow responses.

Do you have anything else running such as Outlook? Especially if you're linking to an IMAP server instead of the usual POP3.

Are the keystrokes only slow in AC? Or does it happen in any other program as well? Since we changed to a Win2008 server with IMAP email to facilitate email backups, even Outlook has this "feature" of thinking about it before responding to your keystrokes.

Have the "gurus" setup a domain, or DNS? Maybe your network IP address for your machine is setup incorrectly. Default would be an automatic IP address which is fetched from a DHCP server. Maybe your network now needs a static IP for each PC. That realy depends on what the "gurus" did.

Or if no server it checks a range of IP's until it doesn't get a response. This is one of the major reasons why it's not reccomended having a pier-to-pier network between more than 10 PCs (appart from the fact that resources can only be shared to 10 connections at once) ... Starting windows takes longer as it tries to get hold of a free IP address.

Well, guys, thanks for the help, but we ended up reinstalling Acad, along with everything else. I guess I'll never know what the problem was, but at least I'm up and running now.

    Thanks again!
