Default Annotation(text) from ArcMap to AutoCAD

We have a GIS dept. that uses ESRI products and they have been able to export the line work to an AutoCAD dwg. But, they don't know how to export the associated annotation. E.g., their display will show, say taxlot lines and within, the taxlot number and the ownership name(s).

Does anyone know how this can be done? tlewald?

We have access to one AutoCAD Map box but most of us use AutoCAD.

    Thanks,

    Fred

Fred search these forums for Maintaining the Database links
when importing ESRI data, they should point you in the right
direction. In short you will need to use MAP as an intermediary
to AutoCAD to get those annotation objects.
Or your ARC MAP folks need to go a little deepe into their help file.

Red face Re: Annotation(text) from ArcMap to AutoCAD

Sorry I didn't notice the post earlier; I jump around a lot in various forums. Please feel free to private message me in the future if you need my attention.

There is currently no solution available for converting ArcView annotation to AutoCAD as far as I am aware. You can convert the annotation to graphics and import them into a geodatabase, although they import as "blob data" types and AutoCAD Map does not recognize these blob data types.

When I import a shape file into AutoCAD map, I create object data with it and do the annotation directly in AutoCAD map, saving me a ton of time and a huge headache.

    I hope this helps somewhat.

Fell free to write me for further discussion.

I know this is an old post, but I have run across this problem this week with importing a file from ArcMap into Map '06. Is there any solution to getting the annotations to import?

    Thank you for your help!

ESRI will allow the annotaions to be converted into shp files (points) those point shp files can be importing with Object Data created from the text value. Once imported you can use either the anno blocks to label or an alter text propery query to label. Then last there's the FDO way of getting the data/annotations to display.

This is just my experience with working/playing with annotation. When annotation is converted to a shape file, it comes in a polygon with the correct length information, but MAP determines text by height.
As an aside - converting text to arc_annotation like shape files
After you have you text the way you like it - use express tools to enclosed text with object, choose rectangle. You can make a polygon topology of the boxes using the text as a centroid. The boxes should not overlap. You can export the boxes with the centroid string variable in the data.

    More play with MAP/ARC

Forcing the text to show up exactly as it does in MAP.
    Place your text as before.
Create polygon topology as before and export polygons.
    Turn layer of rectangle off.
    Express Tools/ Explode text
    - This will make closed polylines of your text. The linework is a bit jagged, but is pretty good for street names.
Export polygon - using closed polygons.
In Arc - dissolve text polygons - this will create one big polygon.
Overlay the rectangle polygons with the text data.

The will create polygons that look like your text with text data embedded, so you can search the polygons by their label.
    Take care,
    TC
