    Default Turn Mass into Object

    Hi,

I have made a mass form which is basically a large canopy over my building model...

It is made of solids and voids, and I have assigned the main solid part of it a material.

Now I want to render it and make that solid part visible for rendering... Is that going to be possible?

Keep in mind I have other solids and voids making up the 'mass', I just want one part of it to be seen and rendered. I used the 'Massing' tools, now thinking I should have used 'Create' : |

    Thanks

Wink Re: Turn Mass into Object

You can use the Massing Tools to convert the faces of the Mass to floors, roofs, walls, etc. Be careful and DO NOT DELETE the Mass after converting the faces to Revit objects.

You can then turn off the Mass, and render.

You can also turn on only the Mass, make edits to it, the "re-create" the Revit objects
assocuiated with the Mass. ( this is why you should never delete the Mass.)

    cheers...............

You can edit the mass solid objects
    Copy the line work
    exit mass edit
Use the create in place family
Paste the sketch into a solid object

    Ok good ideas chaps...

The shape is a very organic 'mushroom' type shape... If I used 'Wall by face' would it basically just create a solid 'wall' type skin over the entire shape? (I've not got it in front of me, will sort it out at home)

I had thought of copying the line work, sounded a bit too much like hard work though!

Thanks for the input, doesn't feel like such a balls up now : )

You did it correctly... I would use either "Roof by Face," "Wall by Face," or "Curtain system by Face," depending on the typology of the object you want to make.

That way, it will respond to the correct catagory for object styles and visibility controls...

I literally just went to Edit > Selected all the solids and voids making it up > Copy to clipboard > Quit Mass...

Then went to Create > Roof (it is a kind of canopy/roof thing) > Paste aligned - Current view...

I now have a nice solid Roof exactly the same as my mass : )

    Thanks chaps
