Unfortunately technology has taken over professional style.

In the Architecture field, using uppercase has always been the norm but in the tech world (social media), uppercase signifies 'yelling'.

Not necessarily just the architectural field.. and not necessarily just social media.

It has been my experiance in the design industry (as I'm sure most people reading this will agree with) that uppercase lettering has been used for years and years for all types of architectural and engineering drafting and design. Starting out with hand drafting, as it was easier to read/reproduce and looked more professional.

AFAIK- at no point did this cross over to other forms of hand written or typed forms of writing either back in the hand drafting days or since the inception of CAD and computers.

In other words, it has always been considered inappropriate to write notes, letters and docuements in all uppercase letters (unless uppercase was needed for a specific purpose).
Not just since the invention of social media, but all media as far back as I can remember.

Back in my graphic design days, we were taught that upper and lower case words were just "nicer to look at, easier to read" or something like that, not quite as harsh.
Especially if you have a bunch of text to read.

In the Civil field many still use uppercase as well, not me though! Hard to read and takes up more space. My state's DOT (Florida) has never used uppercase as far as I know. Many years ago when hand lettering was done text alignment was easier to maintain by using uppercase and last I saw many of the specialized Architectural fonts still don't have lowercase.

It's not easy for many to change from something they've always done. Lot of folk still using shx font files as well.

    +1.

and ... many CAD people automatically set capslock to on and it's easy to forget to turn it off though AutoCAPS should make this irrelevant.
