Not really, since the array I used just happens to be one approach to using it. The fundamental behavior of the family is that you place it by picking two points, like a beam, wall or line. Many of detail component families that are 2 Pick families don't use arrays.

Ok You win! 3d 2 pick it is. But if it is going to be called 3d 2 pick perhaps the Revit documentation should reflect this. If there are lots of other ways to use this feature, is it up to us to find them like some bizarre easter egg hunt, or is someone from the factory going to let us in on the secret. I appreciate the nifty feature, but I fail to understand why the factory is so intent on not documenting the features it creates. I'm sure creating a little tutorial every now and then wouldn't cause Autodesk shares to plummet.

Both family templates allow for some tricky family creation. I have built a 2-pick cabinet family that can be set for different join conditions at corners, and the number of doors adjusted. Great for laying out a kitchen in about 5-6 clicks! If any one is interested, I'll upload it. It's on my work machine at the moment so I can't get to it till next Tuesday. It's also a work in progress, so treat it more like a "proof of concept." Actually, I think I gave Bruce Gow a copy of it, so he might read this and upload it if he has it.

G'day Dave or beegee if your reading this - please upload at will... in the meantime I'll have a play with BG's tutorial

    Beegee,

Thanks. This has been a bit confusing and your tutorial helps to clarify that. I think this is something they should be putting in release 9.0 help tutorials. Often times the briefest of explanation provided are not enough to get a clear picture, as evidenced by the interest in this thread.

Thanks again for coming to the rescue.

Okay, I'm not going nuts, am I? This is the pull down I get from Revit Structure 3. Does a "What's New" appear in the help pull down for Revit Building 9?

Who should I beg to get this portion of the help file in RS3?

Look in the Help - it should have a "What's New" section in the Contents.

Thanks for the tutorial BeeGee. I'm still looking for a tutorial for the new family features in Revit 9.0 . I didn't want to be completely hasty in noting the complete abscence of any new family creation tutorials, but now that I have had a look around it appears that none of the new family features have tutorials. None. Zero.
Also worth noting is that there is no tutorial for the new material take off schedule. Nor is there a tutorial for the new detailing feature. Oh, and there is no tutorial for Filters either, in case you wondered.
We do have a brand new "Project Cycle Navigator" though! Don't get too excited, it is merely a portal for help file.
