pdf995 does resolve the wipeout issue for me in that it let me print to PDF from my DWF (to match sheet size) no problem. new problem: it randomly rotates my sheets within new PDF.
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

Chris have you tried using Cute PDF?

It's a freeware I've used and it handled wipeouts and all different plot sizes.

You can find it at: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

That's been my experience with it, so good luck if ya try it.

Definitely let us know how Acroplot works for you. I've been eying it for about a year now, but don't know if the cost would be worth it.

Definitely worth it for us. We tried all the freebies and they all had one problem or another.

    Acroplot has been great.

DeskPDF is the one they settled on here. Seems to handle everything we absolutely need. not free, by cheaper that Acrobat.

Unlike Acroplot, the PDF files created contain searchable text (if you use TrueType -- shx fonts are still stoked)

I changed the color of the layer of the wipeout to 255 and the problem went away.
I use color by layer as a standard. If you use color by entity you might try assigning color 255 to the wipe out.

Just to throw in another lab rat, I have had times when I repbublish the DWF, reprint the
pdf, and the black shading magically disappears. Nothing with computers surprises me.
