Angry File size is gigantic with nothing in drawing.

    To anyone who can help,
This has just been happening to us in the last month. We will have a normal size drawing and then when we Copy and Paste information from one drawing to another the drawing we are pasting into gets enormous. Like 30 megs. I will delete everything in the drawing, purge everything, and then audit. When I audit on the first two passes it only sees a couple objects like 10, then on the third pass it sees 500,000 plus objects. You can't see the objects or data but AutoCAD is saying there is something in the file. Someone please help shed some light on this problem and hopefully solve this problem.

If you have just a small little detail you can try this little trick.
Use the erase command, when you get to select object prompt choose "a" for "all", then choose "r" for remove, window around what you want to keep.

When you run purge, I believe that in 2005 & higher (not sure if it's just an ADT thing) you can use the command line version "-purge" and select "r" for registered apps. These can also all a lot of data to an empty file.

Try using the PURGE command. Not just the window, but type in the -PURGE command at the command line. Use the All option until nothing else purges. Then use it again with the 'Regapps' option. It might clean up the drawing.

You need the LayerFilterDelete.lsp from the Lisp forum, that erase all layer filters.

killdots.lsp (google it) is another must have for removing zero length lines and text strings that have only spaces.
amazing how these add up when we cut and paste!

Here is the problem solver Link

I am promise you, it is not objects, or unpurged dead objects, it is growing layer filters.

I get spoiled having MAP... this is one of the many cleanup options. love it!

Not to split hairs, but "a" is for "add". If you want all objects, you have to type "all".

Also, I would not recommend copying and pasting between drawings. Every time you do that, you lose just a little bit of precision. So if you're basing new entities on the pasted entities, eventually your drawing will be off. The copy and paste functions should mainly be used for text values, not entities. It's best just to use the WBLOCK command for drawing to drawing transfer. You never really know what copy and paste will give you. In our office, it has a history of being buggy.

And here's a little tip: I know the WBLOCK command can be a bit cumbersome when you want to just make a quick block to go from one drawing to another. So, instead, try using the -WBLOCK command (with the dash in front). It's a lot faster because it doesn't require so much information. It's what the WBLOCK command was back in R14.
