Help - Extra Large File Sizes

Hi there,
Thought this would be the place to post such a problem.
I'm working on a project started by someone else. The file sizes have become so large that I cannot send our Arch files to consultants in less than 8 or 9 consecutive emails of 2 megabyte size (no, we cannot post to an FTP site) and that's only for 5 or 6 floor plans. The project is in metric and the 0,0 point is within the plan area. I've tried w-blocking, purging, and other techniques but cannot get most of the files to less than 1 megabyte in size. I ended up deleting everything on one file and detaching all xrefs, still the file is about 1.1MB in size!
Please help me squeeze these lemons if you can.

Delete all the layer filters and any unused groups. That's about all you can do beyond what you have done. The file sizes don't sound all that unusual to me, however.

Your advice did it for me. I've already got that empty test file down from 1117KB to just 31KB by deleting tens of thousands of layer filters that probably came from an inserted block file. I had no defined object groups in the file.

Hi again,
Now I'm wondering whether any of you has seen a script file or lisp routine somewhere that would enable erasing a long list of un-wanted layer filters? AutoCAD 2Ki that I use doesn't seem to have the capacity to select the whole list or parts thereof.
