Angry Large file size/ Many "Named layer filters"

    Hello all,

    I am running LDD3, AutoCAD 2002 on a Window 2002 PRO SP2 OS...

Occasionally one of our files will get large in size (2MB) for no apparent reason. There is not enough data within the drawing to cause this and I just am not able to figure this out.

Also.. not sure if it is related to this but there are many "Named layer filters" within this particular file I'm working with. Haven't been able to figure a easy way to remove all of these. But it sure seems ridiculous for so many "Named layer filters" to reside within a drawing file.... nor do I understand exactly how they all have gotten there. We do merge/paste drawings together form various sources, so I'm certain we are or have a issue to fix.

Hopefully one uf you out there have a solutioon to our problem!

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the CAD Mgmt. General Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike

There is a lisp floating around the Internet by R.Robert Bell (search using google groups) that can delete them in mass. NLF's are carried around like a virus in versions prior to 2005. Copy/Paste, Wblock/Insert, etc. will propogate NLF. Until you upgrade, get the lisp, add a toolbar button to run this lisp, and get into the habit of running this tool before saving your drawings.

    Good Luck.

Please refer to the thread Brenda referenced in her above post.

Layer Manager & Layer drop down are slow to open.

    &

The drawing file size if large, but there is hardly anything in it.

Thanks, but I'm not quite sure of your point. You simply repeated what I said in a more complex way (a bunch of URL's). The only difference is that it appears that the non-propogation of NLF started in 2004 rather than 2005.

To the OP - note that 2006 includes an option to alert the user, and/or delete all layer filters upon drawing startup.

Only pointed to those two threads as they contain the LISP routine written by Robert Bell that you referred to (ie. No need for a Google search).

Was just splitting hairs and making people aware that the behaviour changed in AutoCAD 2004.

Away, I meant no harm, no foul....

    Have a good one, Mike

Ok, I didn't see the lisp, but I didn't read each one from top to bottom... No problem

Wasn't quite sure - 2004 sat on the shelf, then we went straight to 2005.

    Thanks.
