Unhappy Text indenting changes each time it's edited

This has been giving me headaches through 5 versions of Revit now (and counting). When I edit text, any tabbing/indenting that was done goes haywire and changes. It seems to vary depending on the zoom level I happen to be at when I double click on the block of text. So every time I edit ANYTHING in a block of notes, I have to go through the whole thing and adjust all the formatting again.

Is this a problem everyone experiences? Is it just me? Not sure if it's a Revit thing or if it's linked to a particular type of font (I have tried other styles)? Revit and text capabilities are a bad joke that isn't funny anymore.

Yes, this has been an ongoing problem and complaint with text formatting in Revit. As far as I know, they (A'desk) have been made aware of it but haven't fixed it.
There are some work-arounds when doing notes that some AUGI members have suggested, maybe if you do a search it would help.

I personally haven't tried any of them but they could work.

As we've pleaded with Adesk before and will continue. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I'm curious, thread indicates 2013, have you tried it in 2014? I find it much more stable in 2014 at least that I've noticed so far. Also if it does adjust awkwardly I find that if I use Zoom Sheet Size and then just click to edit the text it resets to the correct tabbing. It's less effective if relying on spaces AND tab's to position columns. It would be nice if it wasn't finicky, but even Word can be exasperating when it comes to formatting, even if we are very comfortable with styles.

Very true on the MS Word Steve! Even though we all use it, controlling the formatting in that program can be a headache as well. I have 2014 installed, but haven't worked in yet. Glad to hear it's maybe a little better. Autodesk not overhauling the text editing feels like such a kick in the face. I don't know why it's not the top slot in every Revit wish list ever made. On my next project, I think I'm going to use two or three different text boxes instead of indenting. I think it will be less trouble to manually space everything out and align it than it is to adjust tabs over and over and over.

I'm having this issue right now. it still happens in 2015... 2016 came out recently... i doubt it's fixed in that too.

The only solution I've ever found is to use hard returns and avoid text wrapping.
Then make the text box larger than it needs to be so it won't try to wrap for you.

I wrote in my earlier reply but it is easy to miss.

Before editing any text element ALWAYS use Zoom Sheet Size.

This maintains the scale which she what causes the text to change. It may be a hard habit to acquire but worth it, at least until the new text editor shows up.
