Default Large file size without any objects in AutoCAD 2002

I have a drawing file (Acad 2002) that has many x-refs & blocks in it.
This file size should be 2 to 3 Mg. but actually 200 Mb.
I’ve purged everything, by using “purge” command and CDGpurge that purge layer filter, application, empty group, etc.
No luck. Wblock didn’t work at all.
I knew something was copied into this file from a different drawing file by using clipboard copy & past. But I just cannot figure that what was copied along with the objects.
Do you have any idea what else I can do to fix this file?
My co-worker and I have put many work hours into this drawing, and with our schedule and luck of personnel, we cannot afford to re-draw this file.
    Please help.

Try doing either a recover or audit of your large file. If that doesn't work, try renaming the bak file & running either a recover or audit of the renamed bak file. Be sure to do a save as after doing the previously mentioned items. You mentioned that something was copy/pasted into the file. Make sure that image & tframes are turned on. If it's a blank image & the border is turned off, you'll never see it or be able to select it.

    Hi

Try to select objects that you wnat to retain one by one and insert them to an another renamed virgin dwg file.
You must be explode big blocks also before inserting operation. This will be better. You are able to recover these after, if you want.

Any layer filters in the drawings?

There may be registered applications lingering in your drawings...try (at the command line)

    -PURGE

If you have RegApps that are unused, Regapps will be one of the options at the command line. Enter "R" to purge unused applications. This only removes one level of reference at a time, so you may need to run it more than once.

    Just another idea...

    Hi

Good idea but the functionality you describe for the Purge command (above) is only good for AutoCAD 2005.

Another method to accomplish the same (+ additional things) that's available AutoCAD 2000 or greater users -

AutoCAD Layer Filter and APP ID Purge Tool

Red face Re: Large file size without any objects in AutoCAD 2002

Thank you all for replying to my question.
I found out a solution to this problem, and it worked like a magic.
    It is "DXFOUT".
    Here how it works.
Open the large file size and in command prompt type, "DXFOUT", and save the dxf file.
Then open the dxf file and run "Audit". It'll take out all ghost objects out of the file.
After that, you can save this dxf file as dwg file.
This doesn't make any change in the drawing file, even title block, etc on the paper space stays.
    It's easy and works well.

I have tried all of these methods listed but none of them do anything to my file size. I am using ole objects in my drawings. but the object is only 71kb and when I saved this drawing it is 28mb.

I do use save as to make a new sheet when I need to and I use cut to remove the previous ole objects because I can't delete or erase them.

I am using AutoCAD 2002 for this.

    Anyone have an idea?

    Thanks,
    Dznytoy (Jarred)
