One of those says that the new Autocad requires a pretty hefty graphics card, but gives no specs on what's required.

Does anyone know? I'm ordering a new computer even as I type this.

I think the video card I ordered will cut it - an nVidia Quadro FX540. I'm not completely sure - that PDF also says to see the list of supported video cards, which I haven't yet been able to find anywhere. But it's a 128MB workstation-class graphics card, so hopefully it's sufficient.

Seems like 3D has taken 2007 by storm. I don't do very mcuh 3D, but I do like the new Xref manager though. Looks much easier to handle xrefs.

So, when they say "Intel 3.0GHz or greater", which 3GHz are they talking about? The old style "clock cycles means everything" Intel chips, or the new "We can do more in less cycles" Intel Chips, or the new "We can do more in less cycles, and we can put two cores on a single die" Intel Chips?

And, while we're at it, why would they suggest "2GB RAM or greater" when the standard address space has a maximum of 2GB addressable, and the only way to get beyond that limit is to activate a special boot option...and that will only get you 3GB. Not that you have much room to grow anyway, since XP can only recognize 4GB of physical RAM.

Sorry, the requirements have me scratching my head, especially considering the equipment I've seen at many A/E firms. Then again, maybe they're just longing for the old days when the equipment was far more expensive than the software.

hmm... bowing to user requests to make their recommendations higher (2006 required 512 ram), so the people using their software would have something concrete to justify upgrades? still using 512 here and feeling soooo slooow.

    Hi Richard

That is due to the fact Autodsek have not "officially" posted those web pages into the public domain, yet.

Currently only Beta Testers have access to the URL and they are under a NDA not to publish it until Autodek gives the green light.
