    Default File menu not behaving

I am having some issues with my AutoCAD / ADT standard menu.

When I go to select any one of the functions listed below from either the "File" menu or the icon, the Command prompt states one of the following:

    Command: _save as
Current file format: AutoCAD 2004 Drawing
    Enter file format [2000(LT2000)/2004/Standards/DXF/Template] <2004>:

    Command: _open
Enter name of drawing to open
    <N:2005Projects5J08 234 Hobson St10%SK035J08-(--)301.dwg>:

    Command: _new
Enter template file name or [. (for none)] <N:CAD
    TemplatesADC-A1-TBLK-LANDSCAPE.dwt>:

What I really want is for the dialogue boxes to open!

Even the Menuload function is reverting to command prompt input.

It is probably really simple to fix , but as I am still learning this stuff, I don't know where to look to fix the problem.

Under Options/system/startup: The "Show Startup dialog box"has been chosen. This has made no difference.
I have tried reloading my profile, and the default profile but that doesn't work.
I have tried cross referencing the "SETVAR" from this session to one copied earlier (when it was working). No differences found.

It was working fine last night when I shut down, but this morning it is misbehaving

Please, any help would be appreciated.

    From AutoCad help file -

These system variables also affect the display of dialog boxes:

ATTDIA controls whether INSERT uses a dialog box for attribute value entry.
CMDNAMES displays the name (in English) of the currently active command and transparent command.
EXPERT controls whether certain warning dialog boxes are displayed.
FILEDIA controls the display of dialog boxes used with commands that read and write files. For example, if FILEDIA is set to 1, SAVEAS displays the Save Drawing As dialog box. If FILEDIA is set to 0, SAVEAS displays prompts on the command line. The procedures in this documentation assume that FILEDIA is set to 1. Even when FILEDIA is set to 0, you can display a file dialog box by entering a tilde (~) at the first prompt.
FILEDIA and EXPERT are useful when you use scripts to run commands.
Type in the filedia command, the default is probably set 0, change it to 1.

    Hi "shona"

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the Software Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike
