    Default Anonymous Blocks

How can I delete anonymous blocks? In a particular drawing they appear to be nested in most all dimension strings. For instance if I wblock a dimension and view the block names with the filter dialogue I see a *D1 block. This block name does not appear when I try to insert a block or when I try to use the purge command. It only appears when looked at through the filter command.

Further more, if the dimension string is exploded then purged the *D1 block is listed....

    Thanks,

    John

To remove blocks that aren't visible I use the 'ssx' command.

Type in ssx, hit return for none, type b for block, type in block name, hit return.

The command line should say how many are found. Then use 'erase' and type in 'p' for previous selection.

The issue is that there are so many of these (*Dxxx) blocks, each with a unique name. My hope is that if I can get rid of them my drawing size will become more manageable.

The more I look into this the more I think its NOT an anonymous block issue...

I think there may be other latent information that is not getting purged.

I have tried to export to DXF to get rid of proprietary AutoCAD info that is bulking up the file size...not sure which is the best way to do this process...

    Hi

Have a browse of the following threads, they should offer one or two things to look at with regards drawing file size -

    increasing file sizes

    deleting layers

    Are junk layer filters added?

Need Help Deleting "Named Layer Filters"

    Have a good one, Mike

    Thumbs up Re: Anonymous Blocks

As it turns out the real problem was the Named Layer Filters which had propagated themselves throughout our office and single handedly added gigabytes of storage to our server.

I have downloaded the CDGpurge program and begun the reclamation process...and I thought I needed more storage space...

This is obviously a problem that Autodesk should address if it hasn't already....are they listening?

    Thanks for your help!

In 2005, you can select multiple filters w/ sh+lk, then rt+clk and selcect Delete. And I think they fixed it so that they don't propagate, like from xrefs.

    Hi

If you work through the links I posted you will see that Autodesk resolved this issue / problem in AutoCAD 2004.

We are also stumped. I have a blank drawing except for one block. The block cannot be purged. The block is not inserted into the drawing as there are no objects in the drawing (including no nested blocks). No other drawings are referenced in the drawing. The drawing has only the layer 0.

No one in the department has a clue. The name of the block is _dot. The block originally consisted of two objects - a donut and a line segment. I redefined it as a circle.

My boss will give me a prize if I can figure this strange block "that won't die."

I figured it out. The block was referred to in the dim style. I copied a dimension from another drawing with a different dim style, so I could change the current dim style to the new dim style. Then I could delete the dim style that had the block that wouldn't die. It was a special tic mark that an architect used in the original drawing.
