Many many Thanks Scott

Wow....how did you manage to find it Scott? This really is a great tip thanks.
Yes, I too am amazed how people figure these kinds of things out. Very impressive!
I agree with Irusun though, that even though it will cut down significantly on my frustration levels for now, I still believe a simple piece of code would alleviate the problem. Being able to make family objects neat and organized will greatly help my job as a Revit implementer in my office. To take it one step further, I wish we could also 'hide' certain parameters. I include many calculation parameters and wish I could just hide them in the finished product so as to not confuse new Revit users.
Thanks for the wonderful work-around!

This tip isn't exactly what you are looking for , but may be of some help in other areas...

I guess it's too much to ask to actually be able to manipulate the family parameters completely. By this I mean being able to create your own categories and also get rid of parameters you never use (how many people actually put URLs and cost information in their Family Objects?).
I use many applications beside Revit and have always found the most customizable applications to be the most successful ones...
I know this thread is almost a year an a half, but the latest release still didn't incorporate a way to change the parameter order.
Does anyone know if Autodesk is planning to incorporate this in the next release?
This is what I discovered about parameters from a database manager's point of view:
If you look at the database method Revit is using (didn't bother to check the actual database) then it makes sense that every parameter is listed in a column for that family. Every parameter is in a certain category, and certain parameters are needed for Revit to identify it as a certain object (I think). I also think it's hardcoded in the software to use certain parameters when creating an instance.
Look at type catalogs and shared parameter files for pointers in this direction. Every database-driven javascripter will roughly be able to tell you the same.
These assumption also lead me to believe a unique ID is generated for a parameter when it's created, and that parameters are sorted by ID rather than alphabetically.
Hope this helps to get an image about why we have limited controll over parameters. My best guess it's about how the database and the software is working together.
So no, I don't think this will change (much) in the new release, unless they give us a button to swap positions between two parameters (and update the assigned ID).
Sorry for any technical mambo yambo and potential misinterpretations, but I think this is relevant for understanding the BIM concept.
Wow - that's real great stuff!
Thanx a lot!
