Default Import a dwg surface/Topo

Hi,

I have a dwg surface that has been exported form a civil package. It is very details and has also been divided between bitumen, dirt etc. It is also showing line marking.
When I import the surface into Revit I can see all the edges. What is the best way to bring in a dwg surface in to Revit?
I know I can create a revit surface from the linked dwg file but it is not as accurate and I then also have to subdivide it again and add all the linemarking etc.

Thanks

J

Get contours or better yet a points file. Imported surfaces are like imported objects not very good to work with.

I would ask again for a .csv or a contours dwg.

Thanks,

I thought so – I was trying to be a bit lazy as the dwg file had all the linemarking etc on it.

As a non BIM solution you could consider importing the 3D dwg models into a family, that way you will be able to cut it in sections etc.

On a larger project I would consider creating a separate model and importing the DWG surface model into a inplace family, you can then assign different materials to each DWG import, you might just have to import each portion separately so you can assign different materials (i.e. one import for ground surfaces, one for roads etc.)

It just becomes a nightmare if you need to update the links as you will need to reimport each time, you will also need to add some sort of place marker into the Cad link to position as well.
