    Default Concrete Beam Joins

So I have a building that requires an expansion joint, between grid lines. So I have one beam canted off of one col, and I Have another beam I'm trying to cant of the other column.
So here's my question. How the heck do you get them to not join. I've been banging my head against the desk for the last 2 hrs trying to get this to work. As soon as I get within 12" of the other they join. Do I need to tell my Architect that he has to deal with a 12" expansion joint because Revit won't model it right.
I can't be the first person to try to put an expansion joint in a building. Don't even bother to tell me to use the opening by face tool, not an option. My beam schedule is generated from the model. Every time I think I'm going to be able to do something faster in Revit, it comes back to bite me. I knew I should have stuck with acad. Then only benefit I get from Revit right now is the grids. That's the only thing that saves me time. The rest seems more and more useless everyday.

    Hi,
This is just on top of my head and I haven’t tried it.
Can you extend your beams and then cut them to the ref planes?

    I hope it make sense.

Please ignore my previous post as I just realized that you can’t cut concrete beams with ref planes.
I was going to post earlier but we have been without internet the whole day.

    Cheers,

    Nope, No Go.
So with 57 views and no response, I'm guessing I'm not the only one that wonders why they act this way. I can't be the only person to put an expansion joint in a concrete building. It'd be nice to have a toggle sim to walls where you can right click on the end and tell it to disallow join, or allow me to tell it what to join it to.
I've tried placing a member perp to the beams in question and using the trim command, no go. I've tried to mirror them, that worked until you drag and end and then they snap together.
I thought this parametric stuff was supposed to make life easier, but it doesn't seem to work that way. That was the nice thing about ACA, it only modeled what I told it to, and only kept the relationships I gave it. It I didn't want it to connect, I could do that nice and simple. Not so much in Revit.

    Question Re: Concrete Beam Joins

Have you tried making the beams different phases? I think that would keep them from joining.

Are you for real? Why would I want to do this? Better questions, why should I have to do this? I can use an opening by face as a workaround, but they shouldn't work that way. I have more workarounds then I do standard practice.
Not to mention it doesn't work, unless you don't show that phase, but that's kind of hard to do with it all gets built at the same time.

    Thanks for the help.
Sorry, sometimes frustration with this "Fine" piece of software gets the best of me. If I had a product that did what I tell it to, it'd be a much different story.
The only way I have found was opening my face which means, I'll just have to do more work. Well there's goes my productivity gains.

what if you go in one of the "element properties" of one of the beams and under construction yo change the start/end extension to the dimension you need ie 2"
    I hope it helps.
i know how frustrating sometimes can be and then you relized that is a simple thing that you never thought of.

    good luck
