Default Macro recorder for AutoCAD

Summary: The ability to record the process of a certain task and assign a quick key to it - similar to Microsofts macro recorder for office products.

Description: I would like AutoCAD to have a "Macro" recorder like Office products, only recording in Lisp, Script, and/or VBA.

How Used: To many times you can complete a task inside of CAD manually, but to create a program function that does it for you efficiently requires a programming degree of some level. Microsoft provides simple "macro record" functionality that allows you to start record, click through process, and then assign a quick-key for speed.

Feature Affinity: API

Thumbs up RE: Macro recorder for AutoCAD

Hi Derek

Totally agree, such a feature is long overdue...

Default RE: Macro recorder for AutoCAD

I would suggest more powerful tool, CAD Player.

CAD Player vs. Macro Recorder:

1) Title.
Macro Recorder has distinguished flavor of programming tool.
CAD player should be more appealing to an average CAD user and would be easier to market.

2) Capabilities and Interface:
Macro Recorder as described is basic start/stop/assign function tool.
CAD player should be more capable, has memory and user friendly interface:
Dialog box, tabs, list of previous recordings to play, option to configure recording (all or selected functions) and option to assign quick key, too (i.e . for basic repetitive operations).

3) Batch processing
This is a major difference:
CAD Player should have power to batch process files, and Macro Recorder as described, again, is basic “record/assign quick key” tool.

I like the CAD Player option.

I guess it's all in the name. I see both options doing the same thing.

Just my 2¢.

Macro Recorder: start, stop, assign key.
What if I don't want to assign a key?
What if user is allergic to words "macro", "program", "VBA", etc?
CAD player:
Select from previous recordings:
"Convert old 94 office files to new office standards"
"Clean up furniture consultant' drawings"
"Remove all notes, text, block attributes"
"Change scale and remove 3D from civil drawings"
You can still assign key to "Remove all notes, text, block attributes", would be nice command for cleaning up some drawings.

this does exist if you willing to pay
http://www.4front.com/lispgen/features.html
But I think it would be nice if it were native to autocad.

It would be great to incorporate a batch recorder and processor so for example multiple dxfs can be saved as dwgs. I often receive 140+ Ordnance Survey bases as dxfs which have to be xrefed. A very time consuming task! Improved dxf flexibility would be helpful.
