Default Component libraries

Gday all,
After going through the hands on test drive, it seems that ACADE uses manufacturer component libraries for automating component insertion. Does anybody know where the libraries are available from?? Do i need to contact the manufacturers to get them?? Or are they available to be downloaded from a central site?? My company uses IEC as the basis for standards (Australian standards are based on IEC). Also, has anyone had any experience modifying the manufacturer component blocks to move them onto company standard layers?? Is this able to be done easily??

Thanx for any help

Owen

Good morning,
Used the AutoCAD Electrical Help menu for some of your answers:

"Sample catalog information is furnished with the default AutoCAD Electrical installation. The information is held in tables in an Access Database file (.mdb) which are populated with sample vendor data. You must expand and modify these tables to meet your specific BOM reporting needs. You can do this using tools provided with AutoCAD Electrical or through the use of a database program that can read/write the Access file format. "

"AutoCAD Electrical provides tools for managing and re-naming panel and schematic layers. You can use your own layer naming convention with AutoCAD Electrical, as well as change the layer naming used on an existing AutoCAD Electrical drawing using the tools below."

IEC standard symbols come with program. We are using JIC had have modified the text inside all block very easily. Maybe the layers will work also. If need more help will try to look deeper into this.

Do you currently have AutoCAD Electrical?

Hope this helps.

Default RE: Component libraries

Gday,
Yes, ive currently got a trial version Im working with of ACADE 2006 (my local supplier has not got ACADE 2007 available yet). So what you were getting at with your reply is that I need to get the data from manufacturer data books and add them to the database myself. I was just hoping that this data was readily available from manufacturers in an easy cut n paste style... obviously not though. Oh well, that will keep me busy whenever somebody is using a new component for a project, one way to stay employed i suppose

Thanx for your response.

Cheers, Owen
