    Question Object Inspect Tool?

I am running ABS 2007. The "object inspect" button on the "standard" toolbar is not working on certain users' computers.

If I click on it my cursor changes to a square and the command line states: "Hover over entity to inspect:". So I hover over a line (or duct, or pipe, doesn't matter). The item highlights, but no information pops-up. I believe there is some toggle/system variable/setting some where that is computer specific. I just don't know what it is.

I have tried this on other people's computers here and they are using the same template and profile that I am using and they can get it to work. There are specific people working in ADT 2007 that can and can-not get it to work as well. I have also had other departments that use ABS 2007 as well, but a different template and profile and they have some users that can use it and some that can-not.

Can anyone shed light on this for me?

    Thank you!!

I can not check ADT 2007 at the moment, and I do not have access to ABS at all, so this is something of a guess - check your Options settings and see if there are any tool tip toggles that are not checked. I do not know if there is one specific to object inspection, or if it piggy backs on one of the other tool tip types. There are several in 2004, and seem to be on different tabs - happy hunting.

I've looked thru those and the show tool tips and show short cut keys on tool tips are both checked.

Other suggestions? I'm open to looking at anything here.

Ok, so I did a search on a few sites and found this...if "autosnap" is set to 63 the pop-up information shows up when you hover over stuff while using the object inspect tool. Autosnap in my drawings was set to 17. I have no idea what either of these numbers mean. Do any of you all know why setting it to 63 works? Is there a list somewhere of the values you can put in for autosnap and what they accomplish?

Run help, search for "AUTOSNAP System Variable" - 63 is the default. I dont know why they couldn't choose 42 - that's the answer to the ultimate question.

Controls the display of the AutoSnap marker, tooltip, and magnet. Also turns on polar and object snap tracking, and controls the display of polar tracking, object snap tracking, and Ortho mode tooltips. The setting is stored as a bitcode using the sum of the following values:

    0

Turns off the AutoSnap marker, tooltips, and magnet. Also turns off polar tracking, object snap tracking, and tooltips for polar tracking, object snap tracking, and Ortho mode

    1

    Turns on the AutoSnap marker

    2

    Turns on the AutoSnap tooltips

    4

    Turns on the AutoSnap magnet

    8

    Turns on polar tracking

    16

    Turns on object snap tracking

    32

Turns on tooltips for polar tracking, object snap tracking, and Ortho mode
    Hope this helps

    Thanks guys!

Now my question is why do my people have settings such as these:
1, 5, 17, 39, 47, and 55? I know they do not know how to go in and change the autosnap value themselves.

I realize if you add all of the choices together that are listed for autosnap:
    0+1+2+4+8+16+32 = 63 suprisingly enough.

So what does changing these setting numbers to something other than the listed numbers affect?

It affects all the values listed in Scotts post. http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=672658&p=672606

This setting changes as you select the buttons at the bottom. Check your autosnap setting and then click on (or off) polar tracking. Then check autosnap again the number will now be 8 higher (or lower) then it was. The same is true for object snap tracking. The different number probably reflect these changes.
