Question Insert wires excercise

Hi fellow Acadders,
I am in charge of implementing ACAD electrical (200 as the new tool for generating electrical documentation in my company.
I have worked with ACAD before but I am new to ACADe so I started out page by page on the excercises in the "Getting started" guide.
Now I am stuck; on page 68-70 - the excercise on inserting wires - I simply cannot make work. The "Add rung" function starts but when I then hit the ENTER to finish the insertion, nothing is inserted. Between the prompts I also get the message [0 inserted].
As the subsequent excercises continues from this, I will appreciate any help on this, thanks.
NB! I have changed nothing in the basic set up of ACADe yet so I have a fresh and non-costumized installation.
Best regards

Are you clicking where the exercise indicates with the 1+ and 2+? Also check your snap, and even try having your ducs and dyn settings off. Not sure why yours would not be working. I am having no issues with this command.
Try inserting rungs down below on line 416 or 417 to test. This is just to get the concept of using the add rung instead of drawing a wire. To by pass this and continue with the lesson, you could use the “Insert Wire” icon and select near line 403 then cross over to the other bus.
My history lines read:

Command:
Insert Wire
Current wiretype: "BLK_14AWG"
Specify wire start or [wiretype(T)/show connections(X)]:
Specify wire end or [V=start Vertical/H=start Horizontal/Continue]:
Specify wire start or [Scoot/wireType/show connections(X)]:
_.REDRAW
Command:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Renata.
Unfortunately the InsertWire options does not complete the automation tasks "behind the scenes" and that is actually the reason why my company opted for ACADe. So if that does not work we will not be able to use it.
Alas it is still not working on 3 different profiles and computers. But I received a copy of the excecise drawing from our retailer and that works okay. Though I am really unhappy not knowing what was/is wrong, I can continue on to the next problem...
Best regards

Understandable about your frustration. It is not always pleasant learning a new program.

Did you ask your reseller this question? What a puzzle.
Have you tried opening a new drawing and select ACAD_ELECTRICAL.dwt. Then Insert ladders, click OK button when the alert dialog box appears for needing to insert wd_m. In the Insert Ladder dialog box, add 10 to rungs and select No Rungs to see if that command works, click OK button. Select point, around 3,20. Then check to see if you can insert rung using the icon.
Working with AUTOCAD Electrical has greatly improved our design time and Bill of Material is more accurate. Hopefully this problem with be resolved.

If you send me the drawing you were having issues with, maybe I might be able to see what the issue is, was. Maybe it is a drawing setting? Just guessing.

Yes I did, eventually. He logged on through the web and took command of the drawing and this worked fine! But when he finished and logged off again, I still could not insert the rungs. Really strange.
I will not try anything else for now just continue my excercises... if possible...
Thanks for your suggestions, though.

Cool Re: Insert wires excercise

Ulf, going from memory, they have you put in a rung in a ladder. you need to select where the ladder rung is missing and it will just appear.

I suggest you insert a ladder, "trim" a couple of rungs, then use "insert rung" to re-insert them.

Let us know how it goes, and welcome to AUGI.

Your memory serves you well, gsanchez23, and thanks for the welcome.
It has been a while but anyway it is correct what you remember. Problem is: The rung does not appear and using the cutting technique - I can produce a drawing as the one in the excersise - I am afraid I will loose the "behind-the-scenes automated tasks".
I have not been too much on this matter but it is really strange: In some parts of the excersise-dwg, inserting rung does work and in some parts a vertical? rung is inserted and in someparts nothing happens at all. The problem is reproducable, I can make it happen over and over and it is the same parts of the drawing every time, this does not change.
What does change is the behavior of the drawing depending on the PC I am using. On one machine the above happens, on one machine nothing happens at all and on one machine on part of the above happens. All on the same drawing pulled from our network-files. Very weird. Could it be profile related? (Some very large scale components unsimilar to those in the excersise-book are also popping up when I continue the excersise)
Anyways, we are in the process of rolling out the ACADe SP1 on all machines and it remains to be seen if the same problem will happen again.
So there it is and probably will remain for some time. If I drop by this thread again I will update you.

Best regards

Did you use the demo before, or upgrade from other version and kept your original library?

I have two suggestions:

One, verify the version. To do this, open that block drawing, HP1W—L.dwg, located in the path outlined. When drawing is loaded, if able to open, select F2 key. This will bring up the history; AutoCAD Text Window.
When I open my HP1W—L.dwg from server, this is the text shown.

Quote:
“Opening an AutoCAD 2000 format file.
Regenerating model.

AutoCAD Express Tools Copyright © 2002-2004 Autodesk, Inc.

AutoCAD menu utilities loaded.
Ddaptxt loaded... Start command by typing APTXT toolbar Enter

Enter an option [Show/Hide/Left/Right/Top/Bottom/Float] <Show>: show

Autodesk DWG. This file is a Trusted DWG last saved by an Autodesk application
or Autodesk licensed application.”

Two, if not able to open at all, you may have to contact your sales representative. Ask them to verify what version the dwg came in. Hopefully it was not saved in the beta testing, like 2009 version. I have not heard of this problem before.

Please inform us here what solution you were able to come up with.

Our IT has not had the time to install our 2008 version yet.
