Hi All,
I have another annoyance I can't figure out. I have a piece of text in a model, and I want it to flex in two directions when the family flexes. When I constrain it to the reference planes and adjust the size it asks me to remove a constraint. I'm failing to see why this is so hard for the family to understand. Please help me. Attached you'll find two families. The test is the one is setup the way I would prefer, and the other is the only way I can think to keep it from breaking. Thanks, Jeff S. Jeff,
I just downloaded the family "test" that you would prefer to use, unlocked the model text from the reference planes you had it locked to and added two dimensions to it: One vertical, from the bottom reference plane, to the center of the model text and to the top reference plane and EQ'd the dimension. Then added another one, horizontal, from the center reference plane to the center of the model text and to the edge reference plane. Then EQ'd it too. If you open my file you can clearly see what I've done. Andre Carvalho |

Andre, Thank you for the quick response. Your fix works for the change in width, but not height. This is the same bump in the road I was tripping over. Does this mean I need different families for the different heights, just to get the text to display properly? Please let me know if I'm missing somthing. Sounds to me like a Wish List item. Flex text in two directions. Jeff S. |

Jeff,
To make the model text move in both directions, I created it as a generic model (model text) and nested it into the cabinet family, locking it to the reference planes. However, the problem I notice now (and I haven't enough time to take a better look at it at this moment), is that the nested model text just shows in isometric view... Anyway, the family is flexing (you can check it in sometric view) and if you can''t figure out the model text elevation visibility issue, as soon as i have a spare time I can try to help you with that too. Regards, Andre Carvalho |

It appears that a face based family doesn't want to display model text in the elevation view when nested. A generic model that is work-plane based however does. I've attached the cabinet with my family off to the side of the previous signage. You can edit that family and see what I did...nothing major. I did add a parameter to control the text height and the signage text. Hope it helps...

Thank you so much for helping me with this. I agree with Andre this should be considered as a bug in the software. Now I need to fix my families before and update me project model before 9 tomorrow morning. As well as the other redlines I need to pick up. Thanks again you two. This was seriously disturbing me. Jeff S. p.s. I took Steve's example to the next level thinking I was safe. But I got burned in legend view. I nested several Signage types into the family, and controlled them with a yes/no. In legend view, I'm unable to modify the visibility settings. I'm thinking of using a family type instead of yes/no. But, I'm unsure if this will work either. Hopefully this makes sense to someone.
