What is your official opinion of 2010?

This poll is to gauge the response of AUGI members of various firm sizes with respect to Revit Architecture 2010 and whether your firm will implement 2010, and if not, whether you're considering canceling your Subscription as a result (as some posters are threatening to do).

We know what 2010 brings and what it does not bring in terms of features; what I'm trying to ascertain is the overall attitude of AUGI's user community towards the new release across firms large and small.

Our staff have been whining at me about display performance so they're happy with the new release. Me, I'm disappointed in the new release but happy I won't be taking gripes about the display any more

We're a mid-size firm 30 seats of Revit. The senior partners have already asked for a review of the other BIM applications. If Revit 2011 is anything close to Revit 2010 then we'll start cancelling our subscriptions as we make the move to another platform or back to - heaven forbid - Autocad.

While I do note the performance increase, I am dissatisfied. I really expected to have some improvements in the rendering realm. As a small firm I have a hard time justifying a 3ds Max purchase to get top quality renderings with sky and background images, but I feel that that is where the 'Marketing Strategy' is trying to push me. I am just citing one example why I do not feel that I got a fair deal for my annual subscription fee.

Ok, not trying to open a can of worms here but beyond the Extreme UI changes what is it that everyone is against here???

Lack of long-standing feature requests, and Autodesk not doing enough to engage with the user base before implementing certain features as is evident by the half-baked implementation in 2010.

We are going to upgrade, but only to make the transfer to 2011 (which we strongly hope is much better) a lot smoother. Display and printing are quicker, interface will be a matter of time before it (hopefully) improves and is here to stay, and honestly we can't expect to stay on the competitive edge if we don't upgrade.
But you're right to let Autodesk know that you're not happy with this release. There will either become an option available to revert to the old interface, or it's here to stay and better make the best of it, wait for it to improve and know how to work with it in the dull case they start making some actual improvements.

Personal feelings aside, I'll have to get over the UI change, try to discover the actual benefits and offer support to the draughters for any disadvantage. I'm not letting emotions get in the way of an informed opinion, no matter how negative they may be.

Still, it beats reverting to AutoCAD.

Small European based firm. We do many local and international competitions, but rarely use Revit for anything except the occasional documentation of square buildings. With this release we can hopefully use Revit for competitions, urban design projects and have a seamless integration between the conceptual design phase and design development.

I'm also noticing an increase of interest in Revit since this release. The building on the Revit 2010 box is a Hungarian project done by a Dutch architect. This clearly indicates what firms are generally against. And therefore would appreciate these new tools even if it would never be as powerful as digital project, generative components or grasshopper.

we fit in the small firm category, and I kind of wish there was a little more option than just satisfied or dissatisfied. I WAS hoping for more in this release, and there are several things I would have liked that aren't there, but the interface isn't bad, and the speed increase is great. I would say it fell short of our hopes, but I still call it an improvement and will install it...

Mid size firm here and I'm ok with this release. After the one week learning curve on the GUI I feel that we're operating normally. There is nothing about this release that fixed any of my long standing problems or wishes. But, so what, I've got "work-arounds" in place for those and our projects are still getting out the door. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see major improvements to Revit (site tools, linked keynotes), but this release didn't really break anything. I like the temporary views "replicate view" and half-tone/overlay override. Is it worth the subscription fee? Well, that's the price of doing business and getting access to point releases/web updates and support requests. It's taken me 4 years to get our firm and engineering consultants back to being very profitable with this software. I'm not about to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I do remember several years ago people asking for a new GUI and commnets on how "dated" the original looked. I warned my staff last year when they implemented the "ribbon" in AutoCAD 2009 that Revit was next. Now that it's out of the way for all of Revit (arch,struct and mech) maybe they can go back and focus on tools/features. Imagine the headaches if they had changed the GUI and pushed out new tools at the same time. I don't need that many changes to SOP at one time.
