Standard details - best in dummy project or template?

I'd like to keep all of our standard details in one place, but rather than overload our template, I am thinking of keeping them in a separate file. Is it better to save this standard detail file as a dummy project or as a template file, or does it even matter? Thanks!

This is definitely the better direction. If these are drafting views, then you can just save a project file. You can Insert from File/Views, select the file, and it will show you the views in it that you can import into another project.
