Is it possible with 2010 Acad (I won't get a copy until Dec), with its new parameters feature of dynamic blocks, able to axcept native Revit blocks with the same perameters?
ie. A revit export of a family to an Acad DWG, will automatically poulate the perameters within the Dynamic block? I don't know if it's possible yet?

I supose that's not possible, each produtct as it's own way of working

Maybe that should be a wishlist item then?
The ability to program parameters in AutoCAD that work in a Revit import of the DWG file, or vice versa, would be benificial to in promoting use of either system. A die hard Acad user, could create a library of blocks which behave as families when imported into Revit, without all the effort. Also a Revit office, could liase data with other consultants who are only at Acad level. Intergration is what I suggest.
What do others think?

I really couldnt care less if we ever get the ability for that. I cant stand DWG imports in Revit content as it is, let alone if they marginally played well together. If they DO want to invest time and development money in that, then ALL of the software platforms getting together and making IFC really work well is a much more alluring principle.

The way the two programs define parameters are so different, I doubt that this will ever be a good, or clean translation possibility. Revit is a database, while Autocad is a "consecutively written file. I don't believe that AutoCAD has the same set of formulas that can drive the parameters within Revit, also the blocks within AutoCAD do not have "instance parameters as Revit understands them. If the translation is only one way, it looses a huge amount of its appeal.
Like Aaron, I too hate AutoCAD as any part of a Revit Model. Although it cannot be 100% avoided, I limit it where ever possible. Content is NOT where I want any of it.

Why IFC as oposed to DWG? Is it a better format or something? Please expand on this thought.

Well perhaps an autolisp routine on import/export that converts the logic of instance parameters for either system?

IFC works like ****, at least in all the cases ive tried to really play with it... But to the best of my understanding, the *concept* is that its a data format that ALL platforms can read.
In a perfect world, why would i want them to spend money just getting compatibility with AutoCAD and Revit, when we could spend money on Revit and the rest of the world? ArchiCAD, Bentley, Gehry, Vectorworks, Revit, ACA, whatever. I mean, its a pipe dream... But id much rather see all the players in the indisutry work on IFC, then get more push backs to AutoCAD. I couldnt care less if i lost my DWG exporter alltogether.
