Nested Column Trouble

I am attempting to create a wall opening family with nested column and beam families. I would like the nested columns and beams to be "shared" for schedule and tagging purposes. I would also like to be able to control the analytical model for the nested families.

When I load the host family to a project and attempt to insert an instance of the family I get an error and the columns are automatically cleared out of the family. Has anyone attempted to do this or have a work-around?

Also, it doesn't seem like I will have any control of the analytical model for nested families. Any ideas? I have tried in 2009 and 2010 with no luck.

Yep it doesn't work :)

I had the same issue with some bow trusses that needed to be created in RST 2008, they do not allow for the analytical line system to be in there, and even if you manually put it in with lines most programs don't recognise it as a legitimate line.

If you still want the family I would try Achitectural columns or probably building sweeps into family. Column heights are a system object not a standard parameter so I would imagine this is the source of your issue.
