filter by project parameter

Here is what I am trying to accomplish:

I added a project text parameter that applies to all categories called 'discrepancies'. Users can type any inconsistancies into the text field and I can schedule the problems. Now, I want to make a new view filter that will highlight any element that has something typed into the 'discrepancies' field bright red. When I try to create a filter for this, the "filter by" drop box has (none), Workset, or <More Parameters...>. I click on <More Parameters...> and I'm taken to a dialog with my project parameters. When I select my parameter and click 'ok', it just bounces back to the (none) option. Even if I can manage to get beyond that point, is what I am trying to do possible? Also, is there any way to make a project parameter apply to grids?
