"Active only" - Design Options in 2010

I'm having trouble finding the "active only" toggle in Revit 2010. Am I mistaken in believing it should be on the options bar? It doesn't show up for me anywhere making it impossible to select a main model element when editing an option and vice-versa.

According to the F1 Help you can use the 'Pick to Edit' button to select elements which will then activate the relevant Design Option - if I've understood it correctly...

but I can't seem to get it to work.

The 'Pick to Edit' button in the Design Options panel is greyed out quite often but can be activated by clicking on it, which doesn't seem quite right either.

The Exclude Options / Active Only checkbox got moved to the bottom of the viewport in 2010. Took me a while to find it also....
