View Full Version : Split walls with Gap in RST2010
Hi,
I used the “Split walls with Gap” (AllowSplitwithGap=1) command a lot for our precast walls. I had a look in the revit.ini file for RST2010 but I am not sure where to add it in. Any suggestions on how do add in extra commands/functions to the Revit.ini file?
Or do you have to add this to via API?
Thanks,
J

I haven't tried it in 2010 myself, but I have read reports that it no longer works. I'm very happy to be told otherwise.
That would be a huge disappointment as we relied on that tool for splitting the walls into separate precast panels. I know there are other methods for drawing precast panels but we found this to work best for us.
Thanks

It's one of those neat tricks that I know of many users who use it both in my local area and online, and I'm surprised that it hasn't yet made it in as a permanent feature.
I know it was an unsupported feature, but it was still one that was regularly used tools, and to have it removed from 2010 does no favours for 2010's image.

Hey, it's part of 2010's improved productivity! All you have to do now is use the standard split tool, right-click the end control of each wall and disallow joins, move the ends apart by your gap distance, make the gap sketch dimension permanent, lock it, delete it, clear the constraint warning box and you're done!
FAR more streamlined than hitting split with gap and picking the wall.

reply from Autodesk!!!
Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support. Unfortunately this tool does not exist in the 2010 product anymore. There is no UI for it in the Ribbon. I’m sorry for any inconvenience that this causes. Unfortunately this is a current limitation. This is already logged with the development as a wishlist, I have added your support request to the existing wishlist.
I would also request you to provide there feedback on the product feature to the below link. This would help us prioritizing the issue.

That's to be expected considering it was an unsupported tool to start with. So technically, the tool didn't exist in the first place. But Autodesk Support is correct, in that it doesn't exist in the Ribbon anymore.
Hi,
Now when we can’t use the Split with Gap tool – have you guys reverted back to use Curtain Wall to draw your precast elevations. It does work but I find it a bit fiddly when for example you have wall panels that are not spaced out evenly along an elevation. I know you can move the individual grids but I still..

This one is disappointment for me too. As I am using Revit for precast concrete mainly.
(The second thing is that it is hard to find my commands , why they need to change icons every version.)

I use a precast panel families created from a column template. Its still room bounding, can have openings cut into it and has the added advantage of scheduling all its dimensions and can be tagged per panel type. It won't host windows or doors, but it will allow curtain walls to be placed in the voids you cut. Not perfect, but will do me until we get some real tools for the job.
