Anyone planning on going this year? It's the first week of December. Great excuse to go to Vegas! I know Zoog and JB are going.....they've got classes to teach!
I plan on going, but it's up to the boss......
Lets try and get a group together while we are there!

I'm with you...its up to the boss and the accounting dept. Might have to save some of my own money though and pay for myself.

I'm going to try, but I think once they see it's in Vegas, that'll be the end. Those Vegas commercials ("What you do here  , stays here.") certainly don't help.

Vegas is actually a good deal when it comes to attending a business conference. Do the math, rooms airfare...conference you last attended. You'll probably find it a lot cheaper to go there than any other major metropolitan venue. So, despite the image it makes good $$$ sense.
I think that factors into the fact that AU has been in Vegas for what? Four years running now?
If the line item is approved in our budget this year...then I'll be going?!!?

I've already gotten the approval to go, made my conference reservation, submitted the invoice for payment and am just waiting to make my airline reservations.
I tried getting everyone together last year, but with no luck. If anyone's interested I'm game. This'll be my 4th AU and I'm looking forward to it. I'm scheduled to take almost every Revit class available, whether I need it or not. There was one slot that didn't have a Revit class, so I signed up for a (ADT) course.
See anyone and everyone in Vegas.

Yep, I'll be there too, and as scott said I've got a class to teach! I'm teaching "Revit Tips & Tricks: Real-World Solutions" JB will be guest speaking in that class as well. Basically, it's a standard T&T course, but with a focus on how to get specific tasks done, like foundation plans and good modeling practices, etc. I plan on including a bunch from this site, with proper credit of course. I'll also be guest speaking at JB's "New Cad on the Block" Class.
I'd be up for any kind of get together. Let's see how many people are going then well figure out when and where :)

If it helps at all ladies and gentlemen, my experience at AU has shown that you have very little time to "do Vegas" as you are constantly going from one event to another. They keep you incredibly busy with all the classes and other events.
AU is by far and away the best conference you could attend, well worth the price of admission. Coming from some smaller architectural offices prior to WATG, I certainly understand budget constraints. However, if you come back with 3-4 timesaving techniques or systems it will pay for itself in no time. (Standard line)
Bottom line - great conference, 1st class all the way, Autodesk has this event nailed, try and make it.
If there is a meeting place and time, I will do my best to be there.
Boy, I hope I will be able to go. I have started my own business (the reason I haven't posted very much over the last couple of months and didn't get a chance to help out on the augi revit families) and I am starting to catch up. I am working on getting another contract and if that goes then I might have a real good chance of coming. If I didn't have to fork out some dough on the revit license it would have been easier to justify it for myself.
We'll see. How much is it anyway. I couldn't find the right link on the autodesk website.
BTW, How did Zman and JB get to be class teachers/ speakers. I wasn't invited

I was wondering what happen to you, So you finally went out on your own eh? That's awesome Yman! Congrats and good luck.
BTW, you don't have to be invited to teach, you can submit a proposal for a class and if it's accepted you're in. I got a call from somebody at revit suggesting I submit a proposal to teach T&T, I did, and it was accepted :D
Z.
Thanks Zman. How did you submit. Of course, they probably have everything figured out for classes. Maybe I will submit for next year.

Looks like they may be unveiling Revit 6.0 at A.U. after all.
There is a class entitled "Get Updated on the New AutoDesk® Revit®"
I am presuming that "new" does not refer to Revit 5.1.

Hmmm,
Let's see... conference ends Friday... must stay the weekend to get good airfares. What's the weather like in Las Vegas at that time of year? It's gotta be warmer than it is in Vancouver. Any golfers in the crowd? I've heard the golf in Mesquite (about 1-1/2 hours NE of Las Vegas) is great and there are some good deals to be had. Just so this doesn't get too far off topic, if anyone has any first hand info about the area (and the time, of course) please drop me an e-mail.
Man can not live by Revit alone! (although it does beat the dyalights out of living by AutoCAd alone)
Hope to see you all there.

Weather should be nice....cool at night (and by cool, I mean in the 50's, maybe 40's) probably 70 to low 80's during the day. Definately not like Vancouver in December! There is plenty of golf in and around Vegas, without having to go to Mesquite.
Ok, just looked it up...I was a bit off....averages show 63 for a high and 30 for the low in the beginning of December!

My last trip to AU, 2 years ago...was unseasonably cool, but was okay in a jacket. It was very nice overall, it was the last week of November then.
Holy SH_T! I am going to have to find a way to go. It seems everyone is going to be there. I'll try, I really will.

Why is the General heading discussion on the Wednesday afternoon class time locked?
You know all, we could take the opportunity Wednesday afternoon to have a Revit user revolt/get-together in the gathering space on 1st floor (which it just so happens is next to the Registration desk area).

I don't know why the "Q" locked it. Hey Z, you got a key? Can you unlock it, it was just getting interesting.
I am thinking a gathering should occur Monday night. Any thoughts? I am looking into a location and thinking 7:30ish...

JB,
Monday night would be a good gathering - provided that my travel is better than last year. I got stuck overnight in O'Hare and didn't make it to the conference until about 11am Tuesday. Jim, when I walked into your presentation with Steve and Hunter(?) I had just gotten in, ran to my room, showered, and came down. This year I'm NOT going through Chicago.
Sorry for the rant. I'd love to get together with everyone and Monday night would be a good time - before things get started so we'll know each other before the conference starts.

Man almost forgot, I'll have to check the ZDBB before too to make sure there "idn't" any last minute moderatin' to do!!

After showing the technical benefits, the financial incentives, the begging and pleading...I'm THERE, woo hoo!
My wife though is wanting to attend. She would rather be bored in Vegas than at home for the week. So, looks like I will be bringing my wife and two sons (3 year old & 8 month old) to Vegas. Has anyone else brought their spouses and kids?
It looks like I'm booked solid with the class schedule all day.

David,
I brought my wife and 2 year old last year and there was plenty for them to do during the day. At MGM there is the Lion Habitat and a big arcade down stairs. At New York New York hotel which is connected by a pedestrian bridge to the MGM there is also a big arcade. There is lots more I could tell you about but it would take a small book to write it all out, so check out some of the web sites for Las Vegas. I am on my own this year so I will see you there.
Thanks

My wife, son (5) and daughter (11 mths) went along in 2001 and had a great time. We saw each other at lunch and dinner and had a little time each evening to wander around....but THEY had a great time and want to go back too. Can't this year though, too many prior commitments for them...

I feel like a new kid visiting a new school.
I have never been to AU and never thought I would want too, that is until Revit was purchased by Autodesk and I was asked to hold two classes.
I am very much looking forward to the experience but know that I will feel like a small fish in a big pond. I am looking forward to meeting the Zoogdesign group and learning more about each others businesses.
By the way, the last time I was in Vegas Wayne Newton was just a teenager.....is he still alive? And Liberace?

Hey you AUers,
Just a reminder , from we stay-at-homers.
If possible, post on Zoog to keep us up to date with events and things of interest.
You know the kind of thing... what was on the menu at Jim's bash, .... what did Carol really say to Leonid behind the potted palm, .. did SS actually tip that waiter so little, .... whats in R6, .... when is the release.... ie. all the gos.
We'll all be sitting sadly by our computers, wistfully rereading Venturi's Learning from Las Vegas, so .. don't forget us, ..sob... call home.
And remember, have a great time out there !!
