Creating Family Tags

I am working on a Library and we have extensive shelving stacks that need to be tagged, and have been struggling to create a tag family that displays relevant parameters from our stack family. There are two peices of information I want to show up in the tag:

1) Book Category: A text based instance parameter.
2) Number of shelves: A formula based type parameter from a 3D array of a nested family.

Both of these parameters are grouped under the category "other".

In the tag family using the label tool the only parameters I can select are "identity data". It seems that I need to use the shared parameter tool some how, but I cannot seem to get the shared parameters to be reflected in the tag.

Any help would be appreciated.

First, make sure the desired parameters in the family are shared parameters. Then, when you create your tag in the family editor, edit the label and add the appropriate shared parameters. Then, in your project, when you tag the shelf the tag will read whatever parameters you specified.
