Hello all,

I was working on a project located at hilly areas. How do I create multiple berms for that particular site? All I can see in Civil 3D is that it gives you an option to Grade to Surface etc which will create one single berm instead of multiple berms at given say 6m height of each berm?

Create multiple berms using the same tools that you used to create the first one. If you want them all in one surface paste them into your existing ground surface.

Oh, Jeff, come on now. Don't paste them into your existing ground surface, if you do that you may end up with a circular reference. Instead paste your existing ground surface into a blank surface and then paste your berms into that one.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I should have said paste them into a COPY of your existing ground surface. I thought that would be understood since you obviously need to keep your existing ground for things like contours and volumes.

Guys, my little 2 cents here. Don't depend on a program to grade, depend on your own skills to do so. Try to understand what is happening and how to do what you need instead of waiting for someone to write a program to do what you want. Insert a pdf of what you are doing and maybe we can help.

OK Guys..

I have created multiple berms (using grade to distance) but how do I know that that particular side is CUT area and the other is FILL area???

Cut or Fill, Create a volume surface. Make the style show elevations. Assign 0-50 on color and -50-0 another color. You will always know what is cut and what is fill.

That is not the answer, dear awhaley.

You see, when we run grade to distance option, you need to specify what is the length, height and slope (ratio).

The question is, how do I know that area is CUT or FILL so I can adjust ratio accordingly? Because the command is GRADE TO DISTANCE. If it is located at flat area then we know it is entirely at FILL area. But if it is located at hilly area, then how?

create a corridor for your berms, control the height in the profile, control the slopes and volumes.
