Hello:
Is there a way to move/relocate the icons you place on the Quick Access Toolbar?

The only way I know of is make sure you put them on in the right order. I would love to do it also. Anyone else have any idea?

AFAIK removing them and adding again the the desired order is the only current way

I really hope that we're not going down the slippery slope to a customizable user interface. This has always been an AutoCAD pain between versions and users etc. Do you want a Revit CUI? I thought not!

There has to be a .ini file or something that controls this. I've torn my pc apart looking for it. It would be nice to set it up for office standards purposes, if you are into that sort of thing.

The information is stored in the UIState.dat file it seems. I asked Digital Building Solutions about creating something to reorder the QAT since they make the Revit Shortcut Highway which will be updated for Revit 2010 in June.
They said they might be able to do something.

I've heard this argument before but don't agree totally. I agree we don't need an unwieldly monster where everything is customizable. However, workflow is different for different users. I think if everyone did a screenshot of their QAT, each one would be different. The idea is making the product more productive. The Revit interface needs a QAT (at least for now). So IMHO if we need a QAT, then make it customizable, "reorderable". Let users decide.

If the users actually decided, we would have modeless dialog boxes, improved site tools, stair tools, a family browser etc. What I am saying is if you fix the bugs and improve existing tools most people won't care about customizing their interface.

What happens to our customized QAT when we install the first build of 2010 or 2011?

The idea of living under a dictatorship is anathema to me; particularly one that makes bad decisions and after all they inevitably do. Just me, but I like a UI that I can personalize within reason.

they should make it like the keyboard shortcuts, make it a txt file and allow us to configure it, save it, and remind us to back it up before we update/patch it and lose it.

This wasn't a rhetorical question. Seriously, what happens to all of our customizations to the QAT next time we install? Anybody?

You can right now just copy the UIState.dat filein your C:\Documents and Settings\*userprofile*\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 directory to another computer to have the QAT match, I am pretty sure, so probably that will still work later unless the UI gets a really big change.
Also, when we get an update it is not the entire reload of Revit but more like the AutoCAD service pack or patch approach.
What do others know?

I uninstalled and reinstalled Revit 2010 because of a funky driver issue and my QAT was unchanged.

does not mean that it will reset it like it does the customized keyboard shortcuts when you upgrade to a later build/release of a version (e.g. 2009 to 2009 WU1,2,3)
