View Full Version : Multiple family connectors and systems

Hi
I was wondering whether to have two similar connectors within a family and add them to the same system. Currently I am trying to add a chiller to a CHW flow and a CHW return system but the chiller has two inlets and two outlets. So far I have only been able to add the equipment and select one of the connectors. By adding the chiller, the system then becomes uninspectable.I did think of either splitting the family in half and adding two versions but that would produce incorrect schedules (for example). Another option would be to mess around with creating solid forms to create pipework with single CHWF & CHWR connectors but this would reduce the flexibility of the family when placing and piping up.
Am i Missing something in relation to adding mechanical equipment and connectors to systems ro can you only add one type of connector to a system? I will have the same problem with AHU's then also due to haveing more than one coil in each fed from the same LTHW pipework.

Never seen such a beast in more years than I care to reveal, but that doesn't mean they don't exist - care to share? Name names? Always looking for something I didn't know before.
That said, its stating the obvious and so probably not the answer, but chillers do have four connections - two for chilled water and two for condenser water.

I don't normally respond to many queries of this type since I may be incorrect or may have missed the point entirely but since you don't seem to be getting much response I'll offer the following:
Multiple connectors can be placed in a single family using the split face command. You can place CHWS, CHWR, CWS, CWR, HWS, HWR, etc, etc. on a single surface or on different surfaces then hide the split outline.

It also allows you to be very specific with the location of the connector.
Don't know what you mean by "same system". I would make each (EG: CWS) a seperate system by itself.

Revitdevil - this was resolved eventually as I found a video showing how you add multiple conenctors from a piece of equiment to a system. I had some luck but wasn't perfect.
jbecker - thanks for tip on splitting faces. Not had to use that before but will bear in mind for future. My original query was more that a chiller can have more than one CHW supply (or return) connection but the system tool only allows you to add 1 piece of equipment to a system (hence one connector to the system). This caused problems with the piping system. However the video I mentioned above highlighted that once you have created the system, you can then right click on the other connector in the fmaily and add it to the system. This should then resolve the problem.
ray.205827 - sorry bud but not sure what you are talking about. Think you missed the point of the post as it wasn't about whether a chiller has 2 or more connections but more how you add two connectors of the same type, i.e CHW Flow, in one family to one system as sometimes chillers are modular and therefore will have multiple inlets for a system, say 3 CHW and 3 CHWR connections.

In addition to this, have you had problems with pipes calculating the pressure drop? I'm playing with this functionality and cannot seem to get the correct combination of connector properties to get this to function well.
