Is there a Thumbnail Viewer Besides Windows Explorer available?

I am willing to pay for it. I am looking for a program where I can browse through my revit families without opening and loading them into Revit. Is there such a program available?

Thank you,
chuk.....

That is a very good question - Explorer in Vista seems to have its problems with Revit thumbnails at the moment (i.e. they don't work reliably)

I came across this:

Have a look at this (http://www.digitalbuildingsolutions.com/index.html). It is much more than what your are asking for, but you could use it as a thumbnail viewer. (Still in beta-phase).

For Revit thumbnails, there is one that I like and it is called Thumbnail Explorer (http://www.raizlabs.com/Software/thumbnailexplorer/Default.asp). You can try it for free and buy it for 10 bucks.

I had forgotten that one André,

but it produces a stream of error messages on Vista 64, which I think is why I last uninstalled it.

Is there a way to control the Thumbnail Preview you get in Windows Explorer when you view Revit Families? I would like to see Revit Family Thumbnail Previewing the plan view or RCP view of the Families instead of the 3-D

Is this possible?

There is also the SmartBIM library from Reed. It use to cost around 1k per license but I think they are down to about 250. Its really a content manager but will take care of your thumbnails, auto thumbnail generation as well as other stuff.

Might be worth looking at.

In the RFA, do a Save-As and look at the options. You can set which view makes the thumbnail.

Mr Raiz has kindly pointed out that Thumbnail explorer does now install on Vista 64.

However, although it indexes all the Revit files in the folders I aim it at, it seems to only show the first few families and then just shows file names for some more but only a fraction of the total indexed... but I may not be using it correctly and will try again later.

Or possibly it is linked to the problem whereby the thumbnails do not show in Windows Explorer either?

As users types a portion of a file name Thumbnail Explorer finds and shows up to 100 files with matching names. For each file its thumbnail may be shown.

Thumbnail Explorer uses Windows Explorer mechanism to obtain thumbnails. Therefore a thumbnail may be missing if Revit does not make it available to Windows Explorer.

I am having no luck in Revit 2010 on Windows XP when trying to get the previews to show up in the Windows explorer. Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

In fact, even within the Reivt Open Family dialogue I still get the default Revit icon instead of the thumbnail preview that shows up when I highlight one family name.
