Column Schedule - Revit Structure

I am a little new in the Revit world..
I had to show arch tube post in my model for size only, but I do not want them to show up in the column sched, so what I did was, I made them all existing post then set my sched. to show new columns only.
Question: Is this the only/right way or is there another way.

I will assume this is about Revit and ASD :)

When you create the schedule you can create filters that will include or not include certain objects.
Any fields you add to schedule can then be hidden under the formatting tab if they are only to be used for Filters.

Putting them on existing layers could cause issues further down the road so I would keep it in the current construction.
