I have noticed that if my wall is set to phase (new construction) my cut patterns for my walls display as they should by material set-up.

If my wall is set to phase existing then the cut patterns for my wall disappear.

Is this normal? Can I get my cut pattern to show up for existing phase walls?

Thanks

Yes, this is how it was "designed" OOTB. You can do this, but not just for Walls. If you Edit the Existing Material Definition, you can get the make-up of the wall back. The issue is that you'll get the make up of every other existing object, doors, windows, casework, etc.

I tried this is the past, and it cause more problems, than showing the wall composition solved.

Until the Factory provides the ability to override an object's "material" this will continue to be the case.

I will heed your advice and leave it alone...

Thanks Scott

I may not be understanding the full question, but we do set the patterns for Wall Types by phase here and find it effective. Here is just a quick example -- made the patterns up.

Settings > Phases >> Graphic Overrides

The defaults create a hatch/fill pattern for the wall assembly as a whole. The question related to the cut patterns for the individual materials in a wall assembly. As Scott pointed out you can't override a material pattern only the pattern for the objects.
