Recently we got a new 64-bit system running Vista 64-bit. I tried installing Revit 2009 64-bit and got plenty of errors when trying to run the program.

As such I'm a bit wary of installing the 64-bit version of 2010 on there, although I'm guessing it will work better since it was originally designed to be a 64-bit program. When I clicked to install 2010, however, the only option it gave me was the 64-bit version. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Somewhere, possibly in either the Readme.doc, or the new features list, the installer for 2010 will automatically sense the operating system, and install the appropriate version for that OS. So short answer is yes, that is how they intended it to work.
