I just need a heads-up on the best way of setting up 4 separate townhouses on a sloping site. The Ground Floor Level of each townhouse will be at different elevations.

Each of the townhouses will be created as separate RVT models and linked into the Overall Site Plan RVT file, but such that the elevation of each Floor Level reads correctly with reference to site levels.

I'm also not sure what would be the best method of creating the drawing sheets, i.e. from each project or from the Overall Site plan..

thanks in advance for your responses..

Hi Nick,

Ordinarily, I would create the toposurface in one rvt file and link it to the model file, but there is no reason why one can't do it the other way around.

1. Create the toposurface to the correct elevation as per land surveyors data. ( I would normally change the units to match the land surveyor (mts rather than mm))
2. Link your unit model to the toposurface file and move to place at the correct elevation, and on the correct grid line in the site plan.

If your model remains simply as a link, it will show the project elevations for the floor and ceiling levels etc.

I prefer to do it the other way around as I then use a shared elevation in the spot elevation tool to show the Surveyors heights along with the project heights. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it also makes the the CD's easier to do this way around as your building model is the active file and therefore you can manipulate and change it as you wish.

Cadclips has some good easy to follow tutorials on this.

Cheers,

Ian

Nick,
If you need to print your individual projects with the site in the correct orientation, an additional step is to publish shared coordinates to the linked buildings from within the site.rvt. This will allow you to then link the site into each of the building files, or the adjacent buildings to represent an architectural site plan. There should be lots of threads out there that fill in the blanks.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks Sean and Ian,

it's been a while - i had forgotten about the shared coordinates - like i said, all I needed was a heads-up

Ian - I will dig out the cadclips and have a browse...
