Hi,

I just did a simple solid sweep of a med gas pipe on the same elevation. (The sweep path is a "S" shape, the sweep profile is a simple circle.)

The question is:

What's the quickest way to make part of this sweep to be at different elevation?

Can Revit do something like adding points to the path and stretch the points up and down before the sweep?

Thanks in advance.

You can change your work planes to draw lines that can have vertical changes to them to change your path. For example, if you had a wall and the sweep need to go up a foot in elevation from one of the wall to the other, you make that wall face the work plane, draw lines on that plane for your path. Not sure if that explanation makes sense, but, yes, it can be done!

I have tried several times to make a multi-directional 3-D sweep and the only way so far I succeeded was by joining separate smaller sweeps into a "single-looking" one. Sort of like when you join different pieces of a pipe using the corner "knee" bends.

So you make a sweep on one working plane (can be along any 2D path on that plane) than you make another sweep on a different plane (say 90° from the first one) and join-geometry both sweeps. It's easy if they have a uniform section (round is ideal) and if they are made of the same material, you can't see the joint. See picture.

This is something I wish they can improve on in the future version. Something this simple but it takes these many steps to acheieve.

I wish it can let you add points to the 2d path and you stretch the points up and down before you do the sweep. This would be the easiest way to do in my opinion.

The massing tools in 2010 work exactly as you describe. the attached sweep was done by creating a few 2 point splines and then sweeping the circle along them. the 2 point splines let me control each vertex and I can position the points where I want. If the splines are done as a reference you can even adjust the points after the sweep is complete and the mass will follow.

I guess I should upgrade to 2010 then if this feature is available.
