View Full Version : Importing and linking to multiple page Word documents?

We're currently running ADT 3.3 and will eventually be going to 5. For some of our smaller projects we include the specs on the drawing sheets. We want to be able to create these specs in Word and then import them into the ACAD drawing. We would then want to edit the specs in Word and have them update in the drawing. We've found a way to do this however the problem is that AutoCAD seems to only want to import the first page of a multiple page Word document and the rest of the pages are ignored. Is there a way to import and "xref" all the pages of a multiple page Word document? Or, is there a better way to do this altogether?

Jay,
Unfortunately there is no way to import more than a single page from Word as an OLE object.

We were dealing with that yesterday. I don't know if it will work with word, but to link to a multi-page excel document and have it update automatically, you select a page or so at a time, copy it, and then paste as a link into cad. Maybe that will work with word as well. Good luck.

Eurepedes:
Thanks for the idea. It does work with Word. Still can't paste in more than one page at a time but that's better than only being able to bring in the first page of a multi-page document only. I'll be interested to see how well each pasted section actually links back to the Word document and updates... especially from page to page.
One quirk I noticed is that when numbered lists are broken in the middle and pasted as separate segments in AutoCAD, the second half of the numbered list that starts at the top of the next segment starts its numbering back at 1 or A. I'm not sure if there is something that could be set up differently in Word that would fix this problem.

They've fixed that in 2005. I've broought in 6 and 7 page documents without a problem. If you do this a lot, perhaps it wsould be a good selling point to get the powers that be to upgrade for you.
